Simply put, A Miracle
Darren, on his 4th Birthday (April 11)
On Saturday afternoon around 3:10, someone came rushing in my room saying that Darren (4 yrs.) had fallen out the window down to the balcony, over three meters (10 ft.). He was laying face down, and a small pool of blood was forming around his face. We were praying for him and discussing calling the ambulance, when he came too and started crying and after a moment rolled over on his back (of his own accord). I felt that it was ok for us to move him and I carried him to the car, and someone else drove us to the hospital that was less then 15 minutes away.
It turned out that that hospital was for adults and not meant to handle children, so they did a basic check of Darren while awaiting the ambulance to take us to the childrens hospital in another city, 12 minutes away.
Once there, they did blood tests, x-rays and an ultra-sound to examen his stomach area. They didn't find anything broken or damaged, but since there was a head injury (his right eye was very bruised and swollen, and not able to open), they wanted to send him to the University Hospital (CHUV) in Lausanne for a CT scan of the brain. So, Darren was flown by helicopter (thankfully I was able to ride next to him), to the larger and better equipped hospital where a team of about 12 doctors and nurses were awaiting his arrival.
The CT scan showed a fracture on his skull and two bruises on his brain, but thankfully no blood gathering in the brain. So he spent the first night in the Intensive Care Unit under close observation. Sunday he seamed much better and was scheduled for a second CT Scan in the afternoon. Miraculously, the bruises on his brain had faded away. So he was transferred to the Continuous Care Unit. The next few days in the Hospital were mainly to observe him to be sure there wasn't any further damage or problems regarding his brain. He had some difficulties starting to eat again, and would complain of different aches in his body, but that is to be expected when falling from so high.
Last night he was able to come home, for which he was very happy...as were all the rest of us. It was quite difficult for him as you can imagine; besides the pain, having his eye shut from the swelling, being hooked up to IV, heart monitor, respiratory monitor, suppositories, etc. I was impressed by the hospital staff, the nurses and doctors: Extremely kind, helpful, informative, caring, very human and warm.
All in all, it was a miracle of Gods protection. Darrens Guardian Angels were there to catch him as he fell, as he suffered no broken bones or other major injuries.
And, thank you to all who heard about it and upheld him in your prayers. We really appreciate it.

Darren's Birthday
Darren Adler Butler. Happy Birthday! Today we celebrated Darren's 6th birthday. We had a late Easter egg hunt, ice-cream, and setting up his new lego present. Liani was hogging it most of the time, until mom came and took her to some other activity.
