From my good friend
Loxy:
Periodically my 4 year old will come up with some unexpected question about religion and faith. Today was one of those days.
As we headed toward the gym I was bombarded with questions about Jesus and Heaven. So I get quiet for a moment, searching for the right response. Once I gather my thoughts we talk about it, and then a few moments of silence pass between us. During those brief moments I wonder if it's normal for 4 year olds to ask questions like these, and what is it that inspires them? I watch him from the rear view mirror as he stares far away looking puzzled. I'm curious as to what he must be thinking now.
Just then I hear his little voice sounding more confused than ever before...
"Yeah, but Mom...that boy on my soccer team...they call HIM Heaven."
My mind races for a moment trying to make sense of what he's just said. Then it hits both Spike and I at the same time. We do our best to muffle our laughter.
"No baby, they aren't calling him Heaven. They're calling him Kevin!"
Love ya!
